Born and raised in Edmonton, Lynn Malin was educated at the University of Alberta and then the University of Toronto before travelling overseas and studying in France. Malin taught art as a high school teacher in Edmonton before beginning a career as a professional artist in the early 1980s. Malin began with the tradition of site-specific landscape painting in watercolour but more recently has been painting with acrylics and oils on lexan, incorporating drawing and printing. These mixed-media paintings are done from an aerial perspective to appear as maps of land use, using found grid materials such as chain link fences, steel grates and grids. Her large-scale sculptures and installations can be found throughout Edmonton and her work has been recognized with a number of awards and residencies.
