The Legacy Continues
Lois Hole’s time as Lieutenant Governor was extended so she could participate in the 2005 Alberta centennial celebrations, but that was not to be. Her health deteriorated, and she passed away in hospital on January 6, 2005.
The Alberta Government honours her legacy and names Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park after her. The park now protects the shores of Big Lake and honours Lois’ connection to the land around St. Albert.
An announcement was made in 2004 that the new wing at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where she and her husband welcomed their children into the world and where she and Ted left this world, would be named the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. Lois Hole made her final public appearance in November 2004 to announce the naming of the new hospital wing.
